Mumbai: A shocking incident where an American woman was attacked with a blade on a local train in Mumbai on Sunday and worst was she had been denied any help by two Railway security personnel who claimed it was “not their concern”. The incident happened at around 5 pm last evening between Marine Lines and Charni Road stations on Western line.
In her statement to the police, 24-year-old Michelle Mark has said that the attack took place when an unidentified man boarded the compartment and tried to snatch her handbag. When she resisted, he attacked her and fled after snatching her i-Phone.
Ms Mark has been working in Mumbai for the past three years and commuting by train often. She had boarded the train at Churchgate station.
Ms Mark has told the police that the man who attacked her was in his 20s. The police is yet to arrest the man, who they suspect to be a history-sheeter.
The woman, who sustained minor injuries on her face, neck and arms, was taken to the Nair hospital in South Mumbai. She was later discharged.
A senior officer of Government Railway Police alleged that Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable as well as the station master refused to help the woman, who had received minor injuries on hand and face, and asked her to go to GRP office instead.
A case has been registered against the man. The attacker was suspected to be a drug addict, police said adding that the CCTV footage will be checked to ascertain his identity.
