Kanakapura : Acting on a tip off, a team  of officials led by  Deputy Commissioner FR Jamadar  raided a  place where sand illegally mined from Arkavathy river near Sathanoor was stocked and filtered. The team seized a JCB machinery and a motor used for filtering the sand.

Sand is being mined from the river in an area which is close by the  huge canals laid for supplying water to Bangalore. The mining also posed danger to the only ancient bridge that proves the vital link to people of the area.

The raiding team also included  Rural SI Hemanth. It is now left to be seen if the latest raid would put an end to illegal sand mining in the area.
