New Delhi: Addressing a press conference at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters, on Wednesday, April 3, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman slammed the Congress party for announcing in its election manifesto, that it would review the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and initiate an unconditional dialogue with the stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sitharaman alleged that the Congress was trying to dilute the immunity of the country’s security forces in an effort to weaken it, further adding that the party’s manifesto ‘undermines’ the armed forces.

“The Armed forces are risking and sacrificing their lives and the Congress by mentioning AFSPA in its manifesto, is trying to demoralise the forces,” said Sitharaman.

The BJP has also lashed out at Congress over its various other promises in its manifesto stating that it was not possible to implement all that is mentioned in it.

The party has criticised the ‘Nyay’ scheme, under which the Congress has promised to transfer Rs 72,000 to the accounts of poor families, stating that the scheme was dangerous.
