NIA to declare judicial request: demands arrest of Mujahideen chief

New Delhi: The NIA declared for the first time, that they will be sending a judicial request to Pakistan soon for the arrest of chief of Hizbul Mujahideen terror group Syed Salahuddin, the announcement was made on Saturday November 30.

 The proclaimed offenders mentioned in a chargesheet by the agency are accused for allegedly forcing money into Jammu and Kashmir terror activities. It is the first case in which Salahuddin has been declared a proclaimed offender, paving the way for authorities to send an LR for his arrest.


 NIA sources confirmed that permissions from the government had been received to send a Letters Rogatory (LR) to Pakistan asking the authorities to arrest Salahuddin, who has taken shelter in Pakistan since 1989, and seven others named as proclaimed offenders named in the chargesheet.

 The NIA charge sheet showed that Rs 13 crore had been pumped into the Kashmir Valley for Jammu and Kashmir Affectees Relief Trust (JKART), an organization used by Hizbul Mujahideen terror group to finance terror activities in the state.

 The initial investigation reports claim that the flow of funds raised and distributed by Hizbul Muajahideen was established and different channels used to send funds to the state by Hizbul Majahideen like hawala, banking network, cross border trade etc.

 The others mentioned in the chargesheet include Salahuddin’s deputy Gulam Nabi Khan Alias Amir Khan, Umer Farooq Shera alias Mehboob-ul-Haq, Manzoor Ahmed Dar alias Masroor Dar, Zaffar Hussain Bhat alias Khursheed, Nazir Ahamd Dar alias Shabir Ellahi, Abdul Majeed Sofi alias Majeed Bisati and Mubarak Shah.

 All of the accused have been charged with various provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
