NCP leader Jitendra Awhad, from the Sharad Pawar-led faction, has expressed remorse for his controversial statement claiming that “Ram ate meat.” Awhad clarified that his remarks were drawn from the Valmiki Ramayana but acknowledged the sensitivity surrounding the issue.
Highlighting the distinction between discussing sentiments and the actual topic, Awhad remarked, “Talking based on just sentiments and discussing the topic are two different things.” He added, “But nobody is going to talk on logic till January 22 (Ram mandir consecration event date), that is why I regret as I do not want to hurt anyone’s sentiments.”
In a video clip shared by Arun Yadav, BJP Haryana’s social media head, Awhad can be heard stating, “Ram was a Kshatriya, and they eat meat,” sparking a political controversy ahead of the scheduled Ayodhya Ram temple consecration ceremony on January 22.
