Uttar Pradesh: The condition of orphans at the state-run Shishu Sadan is no lesser than a nightmare.

According to sources, atleast 14 children are forced to stay in a small room and fed biscuits half-eaten by rats.

Even the medicines kept here are long past expiry date.

Termed as ‘kasai khana’, this orphanage was in news in 2014 following death of a 2-year-old girl due to dehydration.

The report states that the children here have not even been vaccinated for polio and the food is infested with rats and ants. Even the water purifier here is defunct.

Although, the records show that new supplies have been provided by the state government, but the ground reality shows that the condition at this orphanage is inhumane.
