Mumbai: A resident of Mumbai has sued Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for Rs 1.5 cr as damage after he accidentally slipped into a partially-covered manhole in the city.

Vijay Hingorani fell into an improperly covered manhole in Carter Road area in Mumbai on November 29, and was left with fractured leg and other severe injuries.

Due to the mishap, he could not take up a new job in December as he has now been advised complete bed-rest for at least six months by doctors.

Hingorani was to join on January 1,2016 at a Bengaluru-based firm which offered him a monthly salary of Rs 2.5 lakh besides other benefits and perks. A sole breadwinner for his family, Hingorani sued the city-based corporation for Rs 1.5 crore as a compensation for loss of livelihood, physical injury and medical expenditure.

BMC officials are yet to react on the issue.
