In the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE – Class 10) results released on Monday, seven students from Mumbai achieved a score of 99.8 percent.

Together with a few other students from other regions of the nation, five students from the city shared the All-India rank 1 with the same score the previous year. However, in order to prevent unhealthy rivalry, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations decided not to release merit lists starting this year.

The Council’s Chief Executive and Secretary, Dr. Joseph Emmanuel, stated, “We are just duplicating a procedure that many other boards, including international boards, follow.” A significant number of students have scores that differ by just a few points. To prevent unhealthy rivalry, the council voted to do away with ranking businesses.

In Maharashtra, 3,840 pupils from 70 schools took the ISC test, while 28,588 candidates from 265 institutions took the ICSE exam. 99.96 percent of candidates passed the ICSE, compared to 99.71 percent in the ISC. In both exams, girls have outperformed boys, with only 11 students reported to have failed.

“More than 80% of schools have achieved perfect scores. Despite the introduction of challenging analytical questions, this implies good achievement across schools,” Emanuel stated, citing observations of this year’s Council results.
City schools agreed, highlighting in their results the high percentage of pupils receiving 90 percent or above in both the ICSE and the ISC (Indian School Certificate – Class 12), both of which were released on Monday.

“The number of students scoring 90% and above in ICSE as well as ISC has gone up in spite of the Board introducing MCQs as a compulsory component along with critical thinking and application-based questions,” stated Kalpana Patange, principal of Jamnabai Narsee School.
There are sixteen kids at Bombay Scottish School in Mumbai who score higher than 99 percent, with two of them earning 99.8 percent. In contrast, 164 out of 218 students at this institution received a score of 90% or above. At this school, 66 out of 127 pupils received a score of 90% or higher in the ISC. Sunita George, the school’s principal, stated,

“This year, there were more higher order thinking questions in the ICSE and ISC examinations. The addition of MCQs also resulted in modifications to the paper’s format. Even with difficult assignments, kids have performed remarkably well. While just 49% of our pupils in the ISC have scores above 90 percent, 75% of our kids in the ICSE have.

26 pupils at Podar International School in Nerul received a score of 95% or higher, while 68 students had a score of more than 90%. Yet, 16 students received ISC scores greater than 90%. 69 pupils at St. Mary’s School achieved a score higher than 95%, and 74 achieved a score higher than 90%. 39 pupils at Campion School achieved a score higher than 90%.

Karan Philip and Sukrit Khanna, two lads from the Bombay Scottish School Mahim, are among the 99.8 scorers from the city. While Sukrit has made the decision to stay at the same school for his ISC in the science stream, Karan is all ready to prepare for the JEE in order to pursue engineering for a higher education. Plans for further education are unknown to me at this time. However, I enjoy science, so I’ll keep studying it for the time being,” Prabhadevi resident Sukrit, a passionate pianist, remarked.

“I read some books about commerce before I realized that science is my field of interest,” Ayushi, who spends her free time practicing the piano on her own, said.

With the exception of English, Param Bhaiwal of Podar International School in Nerul was able to achieve his academic objective of earning a perfect 100 in every subject. Because he loves computers, Param hopes to study computer science engineering at IIT Bombay. “Once I set my goal, I did not worry about rank or competition,” he stated. “My extracurricular hobby entails studying new computing ideas even in my leisure time. I’m learning Python right now,” he remarked.

Janmejay Kothari from Cathedral and John Connon School, Kimaya Bauva from Sulochanadevi Singhania School in Thane, and Tithi Agrawal from Dhirubhai Ambani International School are among the other Mumbai children who have the same score.
Ayaan Waris (99.75% in Science stream) from Cathedral and John Connon School, Rehaan Singh (99.75% in Humanities stream) from Sulochanadevi Singhania School in Thane, and Aayati Goyal (98.75% in Commerce stream) from Jamnabai Narsee school are among the high-achieving students from the city, even though the Council did not release a merit list for the ISC results as well. Goyal is happy with her result and has already begun CUET preparation because she wanted to attend Delhi University and study economics.

With a 97.4 percent score, Kaushiki Patel stands out among high scorers for her remarkable achievement in defying all odds. Kaushiki was born prematurely and has had Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), which by the time she was one year old had rendered her completely blind. Kaushiki, a Santacruz native, attended the Prime Academy in Andheri, where her mother feels she got all the academic help she needed. Exam anxiety is something that should be avoided, according to Kaushiki, who took the test using a laptop and a reader. With software that reads books to her, technology has greatly aided her in her studies.
