In the beverage industry, innovation is literally taking off. A French premium spirits company with headquarters in Burgundy recently announced the introduction of a vodka enhanced with meteorites. This limited-edition spirit from Pegasus Distellerie claims to fulfill your space-loving fantasies in a bottle of Shooting Star Vodka. It is said that locally sourced, organic wheat is used to make the vodka. According to the company, it goes through three rounds of slow reflux distillation, which is the same as more than ten traditional distillations.
“Meursault Water,” or pure spring water from a subterranean river 150 meters below the distillery, is used to reduce the spirit over the course of a month. After that, it is aged in an Italian terracotta amphora for at least a year. According to the website, “a slow and controlled exchange of oxygen that results in a smoother and more refined texture” is made possible by the amphora’s ageing process. Furthermore, since a meteorite is suspended at the center, this is the point at which it becomes relevant. The website claims that this extraterrestrial ingredient gives “an unrivalled taste and structure to our vodka, resulting from the infusion of chondrite, a mineral unique to meteorites.”
Maxime Girardin, Founder and Master Distiller at Pegasus Distillerie, stated, “The flavour profile introduced to our Shooting Star Vodka through the meteorite and the ageing process represents an innovation that you won’t find anywhere else.” The premium spirit was introduced as part of the brand’s US launch.
