Maharashtra Governor marks 124th birth Anniversary of Nehru

Mumbai: The 124th birth Anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru celebrated as Children’s Day was observed by Maharashtra Governor K Sankara Narayanan on Thursday November 14.

More than 300 children from various schools roller-skated from Raj Bhavan in central Mumbai to Bal Bhavan at Churni Road. He welcomed the children with roses, who skated a distance of 3 kilometers.

K Sankara Narayanan said, “It is imperative that society provides children the right of safe upbringing, which is a collective responsibility of everyone. We must ensure that children grow up in a free, safe and secure environment and are not exploited.”

The Governor encouraged children to take interest in sports and to win medals at national and international sporting events for the country .He also appealed the children to respect parents and elders, to stay away from addictions and to serve the nation.

The minister for school education Rajendra Darda unveiled the State Government’s plan to set up a Children’s Museum and Auditorium at Marine Drive near the Bal Bhavan.

The Minister also pleaded the Governor’s intervention in securing permissions from various authorities to make the museum a reality. 
 
The Fauzia Khan a member of State for Education confirmed that, “The Department of Education has drafted its Child Development policy and would forward it shortly to the State Cabinet for approval.
