Thiruvananthapuram: In a recent incident in Kerala, seven members of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), a student wing affiliated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), were arrested for allegedly waving black flags and attacking the vehicle of Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. The incident occurred while the Governor was inside the vehicle.

The protest was reportedly in response to the Governor’s appointment of RSS nominees as members of the senate at Kerala University, according to the SFI activists. The protestors disrupted traffic and were accused of obstructing the police from performing their duties.

The SFI activists displayed black flags, raised slogans against the Governor, and allegedly attacked his vehicle. The FIR filed against them includes charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code related to unlawful assembly, rioting, obstruction in public ways, and assault on public servants.

While the opposition, including Congress and BJP leaders, criticized the Kerala government for the incident, Union Minister V Muraleedharan accused Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the Communist Party Secretary of issuing threats to the Governor in recent weeks.

The attack on the Governor’s vehicle has sparked discussions about the law and order situation in the state, with some expressing concerns about the level of political tension and the safety of public figures.
