Kochi : A court in Kerala’s Kochi on Wednesday found Sanu Mohan, an interior design businessman, guilty of murdering his 11-year-old daughter.
The court will hand out the punishment for the crime, later in the day.
The incident had created shock when the body of a girl, Vaiga, was found in a river side near here in 2021 March.
Though the police started their probe immediately, Mohan remained untraced. The police got crucial CCTV visuals of him crossing the Kerala border on his vehicle.
Mohan went on the run for about five weeks, hiding in Goa and a few states in southern India, until he was apprehended in Karnataka in April.
After going bankrupt, he acknowledged that he committed the crime because he did not want his daughter to live. After his Mumbai business failed, he was left with a sizable liability.
He dropped his wife off at her Alappuzha home before coming to his apartment here to commit the crime.
He brought food and mixed alcohol into her juice; once she passed out, he strangled her to death.
After that, he drove out of the state while carrying her body and throwing it by the side of a river.
