Jayalaithaa b’day mania grips TN; followers tattoo Amma’s pics on arms

Chennai: Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa turned 68 on Wednesday and to celebrate this day, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supporters and ‘Amma’ fans resorted to doing something special for her.

Most of the party workers were seen sporting ‘amma everything for us’ tattooed on their arms along with her picture.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to extend birthday wishes to the AIADMK Supremo and also wished her over the phone.

The songs from films featuring AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa, both yesteryear stars resonated at places where events were held. Distribution of welfare measures and special prayers marked the occasion.

A massive sapling plantation drive would be taken up in 6,868 temples across the state by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department besides other programmes, reported Zee news.

Special prayers were held at 122 temples on February 22 coinciding with the AIADMK chief’s star birthday, as per Tamil almanac.

In fact, the birthday celebrations for Jayalalithaa had already begun in the state from the beginning of this month.

Earlier, the AIADMK cadre organised mass marriages event and got 68 couples married to mark the 68th birthday of their leader.

The party workers conducted mass marriages and placed bands on the grooms and brides heads with Jayalalitha`s photograph on it.

The entire backdrop and decor was done with Jayalalithaa`s posters.
