Prime Minister Narendra Modi, amid the intense Lok Sabha battle 2024, claimed that while the Congress is advocating for the much-discussed “inheritance tax”, the Bharatiya Janata Party has no intentions to either implement or consider it.

In an interview with News18 channel, PM Narendra Modi criticized the Congress manifesto, likening it to the “stamp of the Muslim League,” stating it was his duty to present the truth of the Congress manifesto in an unbiased manner based on facts.

On April 5, the Congress unveiled its manifesto for the Lok Sabha election 2024, pledging economic empowerment for minorities and ensuring equal access to institutional credit from banks.

During the interview, Modi indirectly referenced Sam Pitroda’s comments on inheritance tax, suggesting that while the BJP-led government prioritizes development and inheritance, the Congress focuses on what he termed as “plundering.”

Sam Pitroda had recently discussed inheritance tax in the US, touching on wealth redistribution. The Congress promptly distanced itself from Pitroda’s comments, asserting that it had no plans to introduce such a tax.

Here’s a breakdown of PM Modi’s remarks on inheritance tax and the Congress manifesto:

1. Modi questioned the significance of political party manifestos during elections, criticizing the media for not scrutinizing the Congress manifesto thoroughly. He likened elements of the manifesto to the ideology of the Muslim League and expressed his determination to expose what he perceived as the truth behind it.

2. Modi clarified the BJP’s stance on inheritance tax, emphasizing that the party’s intentions are clearly outlined in its manifesto and urging against attributing outside ideas to the BJP’s agenda.

3. Modi responded to Rahul Gandhi’s proposal for wealth redistribution through an X-ray or socioeconomic survey, criticizing it as invasive and reminiscent of Maoist ideology, labeling it as an “Urban Naxal” thought.

4. Modi highlighted his government’s initiatives for welfare, including the construction of 4 crore houses for the poor, and solicited support in identifying households still in need of housing.

5. Modi boasted about the government’s achievements in financial inclusion, citing the opening of 52 crore bank accounts over the past decade and the successful implementation of direct benefit transfer, which he claimed had resulted in ₹36 lakh crore being transferred directly into people’s accounts.
