Honour killing? Dalit man hacked to death by girl’s family

Four people have been arrested in connection with the case and an investigation is on to nab the remaining culprits.

Chennai: In a suspected honour killing, 22-year-old dalit man was hacked to death by bike-borne attackers reportedly belonging to upper-caste in broad daylight at a busy marketplace in Tirupur of Tamil Nadu on Sunday afternoon.

V Sankar, who was married to Kausalya(19) eight months ago is the deceased.

It is learnt that the girl who comes from a upper caste family had married Sankar. But the girl’s family was not happy over the marriage. Hence the family members hired killers, who dragged the victim from the pavement before hacking him to death. The bike-borne attackers managed to escape after the incident even as several locals watched.  

Kausalya, who was also assaulted by the killers was rushed to hospital where she is said to be out of danger.

An FIR has been registered in the case and police have formed three special teams to nab the culprits.
