Local authorities in this area of Gujarat reported on Sunday that a leopard had killed a five-year-old girl in the Amreli district.
According to officials, the incident happened on October 28. The victim’s identity was revealed as the daughter of local agricultural laborers.
The girl was playing when the leopard suddenly pounced on her, according to Jyoti Vaja, the forest officer.
The leopard let go of her and ran away when her parents and other witnesses sounded the alarm. The girl’s severe neck injuries from the attack proved to be fatal despite her best attempts to seek medical attention right away.
Leopard attacks have resulted in several fatalities in the Amreli district recently. In Wadala village, in the district’s Talala taluka, a woman passed away on October 14.
There has been a discernible increase in the leopard population throughout Gujarat.
The forest department’s most recent census data indicates that there were 2,274 leopards in the state in 2023. This is a significant increase of 63% over the 1,395 leopards that were reported in the area in 2016.
