New Delhi: Doctors in Pune have achieved a milestone by performing a successful skull implant surgery, which has saved the life of a four-year-old girl.

It is said that the girl’s skull was severely damaged in an accident.

According to a national daily, around three-fifths of the damaged skull was replaced with a customised three-dimensional individualized polythene skull, which is said to have been imported from a US-based company.

Earlier this year, the girl was discharged from the hospital after undergoing two critical surgeries, after she had met with an accident on May 31. She was readmitted later.

Neurosurgeon Vishal Rokade has said, “The girl has responded well after the nerve-wracking surgery. She will gradually recover and will be discharged in about two months.”

Doctor Rokade had conducted an extensive research and had consulted doctors from around the globe. He then decided to go with the Customised Cranial Implant (CCI), which could be used in reconstructing the cranial cavities or any sort of deformities in such cases.
