Noida: Saffron coloured food packets were distributed to the electorate which was there to cast its votes at the polling booth in Gautam Buddh Nagar on Phase 1 of the Lok Sabha polls. Reportedly, the food packets were distributed from ‘Namo Foods’, raising suspicion that they were distributed at the behest of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh has asked the District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar to check whether the incident violates the model code of conduct and submit a report on it.

However, Gautam Buddh Nagar SSP Vaibhav Krishna has denied any links of BJP with the food packets distributed by Namo Foods.

“There is some misinformation being spread that some policemen have been distributed food from a political party. This is absolutely wrong. At the local level, some food packets were procured from Namo Food Shop and not from any political party. Some people are spreading politically motivated rumours. And there is no official order to procure food from any particular food outlet,” said SSP Vaibhav Krishna.

News18 has quoted the District Magistrate as saying, “Not a big issue. Will officials have food or not? Possibly the name of the shop was written over it. No other intention should be read into it.”

However, according to reports, Namo Foods has denied any supply of food packets to the voters. Staff mambers of the food supplier say that they were closed since Wednesday evening and that they were not aware of any food order.
