New Delhi: Yoga expert Ramdev made a personal appearance before the Supreme Court today regarding the issue of “misleading advertisements” by Patanjali Ayurved.

During the previous hearing, the Supreme Court expressed strong dissatisfaction with Patanjali’s failure to comply with its orders and instructed Ramdev and the Managing Director of the company, Balkrishna, to personally appear before the court today.

Following the hearing, an unconditional apology was presented to the court, clarifying that Patanjali’s objective was solely to encourage citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles by using its products.

On February 27, the Supreme Court had instructed Patanjali to immediately halt all electronic and print advertisements for its medicines containing “misleading” information.

Furthermore, the Court criticized the government for its inaction, stating that they seemed to be ignoring the issue. The bench emphasized the necessity for immediate government intervention.

The legal proceedings began in November of the previous year when the Supreme Court, in response to a petition filed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), cautioned Patanjali Ayurved against disseminating “false” and “misleading” claims in its advertisements for medicinal products.

The IMA highlighted several advertisements that allegedly portrayed allopathic medicine and doctors in a negative light, alleging that certain companies producing Ayurvedic medicines were making disparaging remarks to mislead the public.

These advertisements, according to the IMA’s counsel, suggested that medical professionals were dying despite using modern medicines, creating a false impression.
