To guarantee road safety and discipline, the Delhi Traffic Police have initiated a crackdown campaign in response to an alarming rise in occurrences of wrong-side driving in the capital city.

According to officials, there has been a discernible increase in the number of cars disobeying specified traffic flow directions in recent months, in violation of traffic regulations. Delhi Traffic Police said in a statement that “this reckless behavior not only jeopardizes the lives of the offenders but also poses a significant threat to other road users, resulting in increased accidents and traffic congestion.”

Special teams keep an eye on traffic and use the law, including fines and penalties, to enforce specified traffic directions. Prosecutions of traffic violators have increased significantly over the past four months, demonstrating the real benefits of the traffic police’s proactive tactics.

The Delhi Traffic Police issued 30,062 challans for driving against traffic flow between January 1 and April 3 of this year, up from 18,047 during the same time in 2020. This is an over 67% increase in challans.

In addition, a thorough examination of the top 10 traffic circles with the most challans issued in 2024 was done by the Delhi Traffic Police.

This study identifies regions where traffic violations are most common, allowing focused enforcement activities to improve road safety and compliance. The regions with the highest number of offenses reported since the year’s beginning are Bhajan Pura (1,1133), Sarita Vihar (1,333), and Najafgarh (1,389).

Additionally, in order to emphasize the value of abiding by traffic laws and regulations, the Delhi Traffic Police collaborate with a variety of organizations, including civic authorities and educational institutions. All drivers are being encouraged to take part in public outreach programs, awareness campaigns, and educational activities in order to instill a sense of civic duty and responsibility.
