New Delhi: In response to the permission granted for a ‘puja’ ceremony at one of the ‘Tehkhanas’ within the Gyanvapi Mosque complex, Mohammed Saleem, Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, expressed concern about the erosion of trust and criticized the apparent sway of public opinion in legal decisions. Saleem emphasized the government’s responsibility to uphold law and order and protect religious sites.

Saleem stated, “There is democracy in our country, and it’s the government’s duty to ensure the safety of citizens and religious institutions. Regardless of faith, it’s our collective responsibility to remind the government to uphold the law.”

Commenting on the decision to confer Bharat Ratna upon BJP veteran LK Advani, Malik Mohtasim Khan, Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, questioned the government’s alignment with those involved in the Babri Masjid demolition, suggesting a departure from legal principles.

Meanwhile, the Allahabad High Court declined to stay the Varanasi Court’s order permitting Hindu prayers in the Gyanvapi Mosque’s southern cellar. Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, President of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, expressed dismay over the development, highlighting the abrupt nature of the prayer offering and the placement of idols.

Subhash Nandan Chaturvedi, representing the Hindu side in the Gyanvapi case, remained confident in the court’s decision, predicting the dismissal of the plea filed by the Masjid Intezamia Committee challenging the Gyanvapi order. Chaturvedi criticized the Committee’s approach, suggesting it bypassed proper legal channels and jumped directly to the Supreme Court instead of addressing the High Court first.
