New Delhi : In the early hours of Wednesday, the Andaman Islands region experienced a moderate earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter Scale, as reported by the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The quake, which struck at 4:31 a.m. local time, had a depth of 35 km.
The NCS shared the following details on the event: “An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 occurred on 17-04-2024 at 04:31:30 IST. The epicenter was located at Lat: 12.04 & Long: 92.60 in the Andaman Islands, with a depth of 35 km (sic).”
Prior to this, at 12:18 a.m., a 2.8-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand.
