In connection with a corruption scheme at Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has detained two more individuals: a medical equipment supplier and a nurse, officials announced on Thursday. After this, there had been 11 arrests made in this case overall.

The two individuals detained were Akarshan Gulati, the Biotroniks territory sales manager, and Shalu Sharma, a nurse. On Wednesday, the CBI busted the scheme and detained nine persons.

The detained suspects engaged in corruption by accepting bribes from medical representatives and patients. News agency PTI cited officials as adding that this also included three hospital support staff members and two cardiologists who were brought into prison on Wednesday.

As the CBI questioned the defendants who had been apprehended, more arrests are anticipated.

There were five main components to the corruption scheme: supplying stents and other medical supplies, supplying a certain brand of stents, supplying medical equipment in labs, admitting patients in return for bribes, and issuing fictitious medical certificates.

A man was allegedly threatened by the nurse Shalu and the clerk Bhuwal Jaiswal, threatening to expel his pregnant wife from the central government-run medical facility RML Hospital unless he paid them Rs 20,000.

It was said that Shalu had threatened to terminate the man’s wife’s care and send her packing. The FIR filed by the CBI states that the man used UPI to pay the sum.

The names of the two doctors who were taken into custody are Ajay Raj, a professor in the department of cardiology, and Parvathgouda, an assistant professor. According to officials, both individuals were employed at the RML Hospital and were discovered accepting bribes from providers of medical equipment so they could use their stents and products.

Rajnish Kumar, a senior lab supervisor at the central government-run hospital, was one of the people arrested.
