New Delhi:  This morning, several hospitals in Delhi were targeted by bomb threat calls, marking a concerning escalation following recent incidents involving hoax bomb emails in schools across the national capital and other major Indian cities.

The Delhi Fire Department confirmed that the Delhi State Cancer Institute near the GTB Hospital, Dada Dev Hospital in Dabri, Hedgewar Hospital, and Deep Chandra Bandhu Hospital all received such calls, though the veracity of these threats is currently under investigation.

These threats come amidst a series of similar incidents in recent weeks, coinciding with heightened security measures due to ongoing elections across the country.

Earlier in May, approximately 100 schools in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) were targeted by hoax bomb emails, causing widespread panic among school staff and parents. Additionally, on May 6, seven schools in Ahmedabad reported receiving bomb threats via email, which were traced back to servers with Russian IP addresses. Fortunately, subsequent searches by bomb disposal squads yielded no suspicious items.

Similarly, on a recent Sunday, hoax bomb threat emails were sent to the Delhi airport and various other locations, including several major hospitals in the city. However, these threats were swiftly determined to be false alarms.

More recently, four schools in Jaipur received similar threats via email, prompting authorities to evacuate students and deploy bomb squads with sniffer dogs as a precautionary measure.
