Delhi HC raps Centre for failing to appoint Chief Information Commissioner

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday came down heavily on the Centre on issue of appointment of a Chief Information Commissioner. The posts of the Chief Information Commissioner and three information commissioners are lying vacant for nearly a year.

While rapping the Centre, the High Court bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Rajiv Sahai Endlaw observed that past experience had shown unless the court interferes the government does not fill up posts. The court also added that it

will monitor the process and asked the government to file an affidavit on the progress it has made by May 5.
Additional Solicitor General Sanjay Jain, representing the government, assured the court that the posts of chief information commissioner and information commissioners will be expeditiously filled up
