Udaipur: World boxing champion Mary Kom’s coach, Hemlata Gupta, was allegedly assaulted by employees of a restaurant in Udaipur on Monday evening. The altercation happened over Ms Gupta’s mobile phone, worth Rs. 40,000, which allegedly went missing in the hotel where she had gone for dinner with her family.

Four people, including the manager and three waiters, have been detained today, after an FIR was filed in the matter, say senior police officials of Ambamata police station.

The police also recovered the mobile phone from the restaurant premises.

30-year-old Ms Gupta alleges that the hotel staff got into an altercation with her, when she – along with her husband Anoop – went to inquire about her phone. “The matter got out of control when I threatened to call the police. Soon, around 40 people, including the hotel staff and drivers, assaulted me,” alleges Mr Gupta.

Ms Gupta, who is one of Mary Kom’s coaches, is a native of Jhunjunu and is based in Delhi. She had come to Udaipur on April 4 on holiday. Besides her husband, she was being accompanied by her father-in-law and mother-in-law.
