MUMBAI: Navghar police in Mulund (east) have registered a case against the BJP MP Kirit Somaiya reportedly indulging in a heated discussion with a police inspector and later assaulting him in the police station.

The incident occurred on August 21 when Somaiya was called by the police for an inquiry into the case registered against him and his party workers and the NCP party workers after they clashed on April 16.

Inspector SR Munde is the investigating officer in that matter.

It is reported that Deputy commissioner of police (Zone Vll), Vinaykumar Rathod, confirmed that a case has been registered against the BJP MP. “Somaiya has been booked for assaulting an inspector on duty. He was called to the police station last week for an inquiry when he committed the offence,” said Rathod.

Navghar police inspector Ganesh Gaikwad said a case under Indian Penal Code sections 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from his duty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) has been registered against Somaiya.

“Initially the party workers came to the police station after Somaiya was called. He landed at the police station at 3pm on August 21 and created ruckus. The case was registered after carrying out probe,” said Gaikwad.
