New Delhi: The New Delhi Assembly is hung with the BJP winning 32 seats and the AAP 28 seats. But, the parties are in no hurry to stake claim to form the government. .
Winning 32 seats, the BJP fell four short of a majority in Sunday’s vote count wherein they needs 3 more seats to register a majority in the 70-member Delhi Assembly; likewise the Aam Aadmi Party, in a spectacular showing in a first election, has grabbed 28seats.
While the BJP is finding hard to get 3 more, the AAP led by Arvind Kejriwal has ruled out any possibility of forming an alliance to form the next government in Delhi. To BJP’s dilemma even others have managed to bag only two seats. One seat each has gone to an Independent, JD (U) and Akali Dal, which is an ally of BJP.
Dr Harsh Vardhan, BJP’s chief ministerial candidate, said “I will not stake claim to form a government as his party is short of a clear majority and would prefer to sit in the opposition than indulging in any “horse trading”.”
“Since I do not have the numbers I cannot stake my claim in forming my government in Delhi, since I do not have the magic number of 36, I really cannot be a part of the government formation in Delhi”, he added.
On the other hand debutant, Kejriwal defeated three time Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in New Delhi constituency with a whooping 22000 votes.
