Amit Shah, who was caught up in a fictitious video controversy, narrowly avoided disaster on Monday when his helicopter momentarily lost control just before takeoff from Begusarai, Bihar.
The 59-year-old home minister was in Bihar for an election rally.
In a video, the helicopter takes off, sways to its right, and nearly touches the ground before the alert pilot regains control, corrects the trajectory, and the aircraft takes off.
The BJP is contesting 17 seats in Bihar in partnership with Nitish Kumar’s JDU, which is contesting on 16 seats. Chirag Paswan’s LJP and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustan Awam Morcha, the other allies, will contest on 5 and 1 seat, respectively.
In the marathon seven-phased general election, four seats in Bihar went to polls in round 1.
Phase 2 polling in Bihar’s five Lok Sabha constituencies was carried out peacefully last Friday. According to officials, the provisional voter turnout was 58.58 percent, which was nearly 4.34 percent lower than in the general elections of 2019.
On June 4, the votes will be tallied.
