New Delhi: Just a day after Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was awarded the Bharat Ratna award, a member of parliament, representing the Janata Dal-United has showed his discontent over the issue.

JD-U’s Member of Parliament Shivanand Tiwari questioned, “If the India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, is awarded to the cricketer then why is it not given to the legendary hockey player Dhyan Chand.”

“I fail to understand why Dhyan Chand was ignored and Sachin Tendulkar was given Bharat Ratna”, he added.

In addition he also said, “Dhyan Chand was incredible for having taken hockey to international level for the country when there was no corporate and powerful media. His magic impressed even fascist leaders of Germany who offered him money, comfortable and luxurious life but Dhyan Chand stuck to India, which shows his patriotism.”

Tiwari confirmed that the ministry had shortlisted the name of Dhyan Chand for giving the Bharat Ratna but in a regretful tone he said that the Bharat Ratna has lost its importance now.

Making it clear, that the party had nothing to do with his statement he said, “A nationwide debate has to be organized, to recognize whom the Bharat Ratna must be awarded.”

JD-U chief and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, however has showed favorable response when Sachin was awarded the Bharat Ratna.
