Andhra Pradesh: On Tuesday the stampede left as many as 27 persons dead leaving several others injured.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu while in reaction to the stampede at Godavari Pushkaram festival in Rajahmundry said that the tragedy occurred as the barricade broke due to overcrowding.
He also expressed grief at the loss of lives. “The incident occurred despite personally monitoring the arrangements for the last couple of months”, he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is said to have spoken to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and discussed the situation with him. Meanwhile, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter. He tweeted, “deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives”
