Mangaluru: Senior journalist, organizer, and social activist DM Kulal (54), a former member of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Akademy, passed away at his residence in Daipala on Thursday afternoon.

He worked as a journalist in the Mungaru, Mangalore Mitra and Netravathi Newspapers and later wrote articles for various newspapers. He has written a total of 4 works, including a biographical book of Ammembala Balappa, a veteran freedom fighter.

Recently, the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Akademy honoured him with a “Chavadi Puraskar” at his residence.

The deceased is survived by a mother, a wife, and two children.
