Mangaluru: Yenepoya hospital had a feather added to its cap when a kidney transplantation was performed successfully at Yenepoya Medical College Hospital on Sunday.

Balkis Banu, a resident of Hassan was admitted to Yenepoya Hospital with end stage kidney failure a month ago. She was on dialysis for a period of one month and a Renal Transplant was suggested. Coming to her daughter’s rescue, Banu’s mother volunteered to donate one of her kidneys to her daughter.
The cost involved in a renal transplant was quite high and when the patient’s family could not afford the entire cost of surgery and hospital bills, the management of the hospital extended its helping hand to do the surgery at a cost affordable to the patient.
Post surgery, the patient is recovering and ready for discharge. The Renal Transplant team comprised of Dr Mujeeburahiman, Dr Nischith D’souza, Dr Althaf Khan (Urologists), Dr Santhosh Pai (Nephrologist) and Anesthesia team headed by Dr S Padmanabha.
The Management of Yenepoya hospital including Director of Finance and Research Mr.Y.Farhad, COO of YMCH Dr Mohammed Amin Wani and Officer for Hospital Operations Dr Sunitha Saldanha have contributed to this success and helped the patient get the transplant done at a subsidized cost.
The hospital which has a well equipped Nephrology and Urology units with state of the art dialysis facility and multidisciplinary team includes experienced staff nurses and the transplant coordinator renders quality service to a good number of patients from Karnataka and Kerala region to avail the services at an affordable cost.
