Mangaluru: A workshop on Renewable Energy And Energy Conservation was inaugurated in the presence of resource persons Dr. S. G. Sreekanteswara Swamy, Executive Secretary, KSCST, Dr Uday Kumar Yeragatti, Professor, NITK, Vishnu A Chinagundi, Senior Consultant, KSCST and Dr. Richard Pinto, Director Research, Sahyadri College of Engineering, Mangalore Prof. Mahesh B Davanageri, HOD, Mechanical Engineering, Dr. K K Poornesh, Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering, faculty members and students of mechanical department and electronics & communication engineering of SCEM.
The inaugural session was presided over by Dr Richard Pinto followed by the sessions of resource persons who enlightened the gathering on the importance of renewable energy resources and energy conservation. Sessions focused more on applications and opportunities in the area of renewable energy resources and its outcomes. The sessions were followed by interaction of students with resource the persons.
Dr. S G S Swamy, Executive secretary, Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, highlighted on the initiatives the KSCST cell has taken in the field of waste management, water quality assessment, rain harvesting, and on the importance of solar energy and bio-energy. More than 50 workshops have been arranged throughout Karnataka to bring an awareness among the people and thereby promoting public involvement to the contribution to renewable energy. He specially requested the young students to take up on the path of renewable energy.
Dr. Uday Kumar Yeragatti, NITK, Surathkal, said, “Getting energy from Renewable energy is important, but conserving that energy is even more necessary”. Of the total electricity generated in India, 18% is lost on transportation loss. This is huge. Currently the government is trying to minimize this loss. He stressed on the development of hybrid grid network for efficient energy management.
Vishnu Chinagundi, Senior Consultant, KSCST gave an elaborative scenario on renewable energy. He was in-charge of many of the small hydro projects that were employed throughout Karnataka. He made an important observation on the business and investment opportunities in Renewable energy sector. Renewable energy sector is going to generate lots of Job opportunities for youngsters in the coming years.
