Mangaluru: Annual alumni meet of University College, Hamankatta, was organized in Ravindra Kala Bhavana, on Friday.
Speaking at the event, Chief Guest Prof. A M Khan, Registrar (Evaluation), Mangaluru, said that the suggestions of the alumni is necessasry for the college to provide quality education.
“Constrution of amphitheatre, classroom complexes, digital libraries and many other projects need the support of the seniors. The University will consider the collection of Rs 16 lakhs required to complete the building which being constructed by the Alumni association, at a cost of Rs 1.6 crores,” A M Khan said.
Adressing the gathering, Dr. Uday Kumar, Principal of the college, said that by establishing several associations, former principal Govinda Krishna Chittoor has given a new dimension to the development of the college.
“Former students have donated funds in many occassions to the college. However, there is a requirement of more funds. The support and cooperation of the younger generation is required to continue the legacy of the college,” said Uday Kumar.
“I will sponsor the fees of five deserving students from the next academic year,” he added.
B Dharmanna Nayak, President of Alumni association, who presided over the function, said that to mark the 150 anniversary of the University College, the association has taken up some signifiacant projects. “Karnataka Bank has come with a financial aid of Rs 17.5 lakhs for the construction of amphitheatre. Funds have been collected which will help pay the fees of deserving students. Mid-day meals, construction of new buildings are some of the initiatives taken up by the association,” he said.
Sudhakar Rao Pejawara compered the programme.
Vice Presidents, Colonel Nittegutthu Sharath Bhandary and Shubhodaya Koodlu, Association Secretary, Lohith Das R, Treasurer, Rammohan Rai, among many others were present during the occassion.
