Mangaluru: A Technical Talk on Nanofluids by Dr Shuichi Torii, Assistant Director and Professor in the Department of Mechanical System Engineering at Kumamoto University (College of Cross-Cultural and Multidisciplinary Studies) – Japan, and related interaction, was organized by the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) SJEC Students’ Chapter in St Joseph Engineering College – Vamanjoor, Mangaluru on August 31, 2016.
The technical talk was preceded by a formal function in which Dr Shuichi Torii and Dr Ajay Kumar Yadav, Professor from NITK was welcomed and felicitated by Rev. Fr Rohith D’Costa, Director-Incharge of SJEC. Dr Rio D’Souza, Vice Principal of SJEC, presided over the function. Dr Sudheer M, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department and Noel Deepak Shiri, ISTE SJEC Chapter Chairman and Loy Fernandes, President of ISTE Students’ Chapter were the other dignitaries on the dais.
The programme began at 10:15 a.m. with the prayer song sung by choir team led by Joshwin Sequeira. Vicky Vaz, ISTE Student Coordinator gave a brief introduction to ISTE SJEC Students’ Chapter to the audience. Gautami Shetty, ISTE Student Coordinator, welcomed the gathering. Noel Shiri, ISTE SJEC Chapter Chairman, introduced the Chief Guest, Prof. Shuichi Torii and gave a detailed description of the research work and achievements of Prof. Torii to the gathering.
Dr Rio D’souza, Vice Principal of SJEC delivered the presidential talk to the gathering. He spoke about the importance of such technical talks, and gave a brief introduction to Nanotechnology and the challenge set by Richard Feynman which led to the development of Nanotechnology. He appreciated the efforts of ISTE in organizing such a good technical talk. He also thanked Dr Ajay Kumar Yadav in helping bring Prof. Shuichi Torii to SJEC Campus. He thanked Prof. Shuichi Torii for his visit to SJEC and called upon the gathering to benefit from this technical talk.
Dr Shuichi Torii in his address introduced the city of Kumamoto and presented a brief history of Kumamoto University and its distinguished alumni. Dr Torii then delivered a lecture on Nanofluids with focus on Thermal Conductivity of Nano-Fluids in turbulent flow. The talk was attended by students and faculty from the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Dr Ajay Kumar Yadav suggested all the students to read some books and watch the video lectures on Nanofluids. He also provided information on an international symposium which is held in Japan every year around the month of March and requested the students and staff members to apply. After the technical talk a Memento was presented to Dr Ajay Kumar Yadav by Dr Sudheer M, Head of Mechanical Engineering. The vote of thanks was delivered by Loy Fernandes, President of ISTE-SJEC Students’ chapter.
