Mangaluru: Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Deralakatte, Mangaluru organized “National Science Day 2019” programme at Deralakatte campus. The theme of this year was “Science for the People and the People for Science”. Dr. Navakanta Bhat, Chair and Professor, Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE), Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru was the chief guest of the programme. He addressed to have vision, interdisciplinary team and sustained efforts to carry science to the society. He also spoke to have a vision much bigger than individual ego for development of science.
Also, he advocated connecting institutional facility with web portal I-STEM, one of the initiatives from Government of India. More than 200 clinicians, scientists and students from different educational institutes participated in this event. A number of activities were organized to celebrate this day. Researchers and Departments who contributed significantly to the society were recognized and awarded in this event.
Mr. Farhaad Yenepoya, Pro-chancellor was the guest of honour and talked about the need for translating scientific innovation for the benefit of society. Dr. M Vijayakumar, Vice chancellor, presided over the function. Dr. K. Gangadhar Somayaji, Prof. B. S. Rao and Prof. Abdul Rahiman also shared the dais on this occasion. Dr. Rekha P. D, Deputy Director, Yenepoya Research Centre, felicitated the chief guest.
