Mangaluru: e-Time 2016, a two day Faculty Development Program and National Conference on Emerging Trends in Mechanical Engineering organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Vamanjoor was inaugurated on Friday, August 5.
Dr K Narayan Prabhu, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, NITK, Surathkal who was the chief guest said that the events of this kind would help the participants build a network and learn the current trends in the industry. Conferences like e-Time are a vital component for the professional development of the faculty. Meeting resource persons will help the faculty gain knowledge. “Both the researchers and the delegates participating in the event will benefit. Since there are a large number of specializations in engineering, there is no time in today’s world to read books. Workshops like e-Time will help the participating delegates a lot. They can mix in the practical exercises. I wish every participant a fruitful stay at SJEC,” he added.
Dr Joseph Gonsalvis Principal, SJEC said that mechanical engineering is the mother of all engineering and every branch of engineering depends on mechanical engineering. “The aim of researchers should not be restricted to mere bagging a Ph.D. The researcher’s research should not be dormant after receiving a Ph.D, but he should look for the betterment of the world,” he said.
Rev. Fr Rohith D’ Costa, Asstistant Director, SJEC in his presidential address said that mechanical engineering plays an important role in the growth of society and the nation in general. “Inspire your students as faculty and make sure they become researchers of substance,” he said.
Dr Purushothama Chippar, Organizing Secretary, SJEC delivered the vote of thanks. Dr Rio D’Souza, Vice Principal, SJEC; Dr James Valder, Convenor, SJEC, faculty, delegates and students were present. Dr Sudheer, Head of the Department, Mechanical Engineering, SJEC, welcomed the guests and the gathering. The souvenir of e-Time 2016 was earlier unveiled by the dignitaries.
