Mangaluru: The Chief Whip of Karnataka State Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza was felicitated by the Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Rachana) at Eden Club on Sunday, August 14.
MLA of Mangaluru South constituency J R Lobo who spoke on the occasion pointed out the fact that very less people from the community have been into politics.

“MP Lobo Prabhu and Minister Blasius D’Souza have worked hard for the development of the district. Ivan D’Souza was trained by Blasius D’Souza. Margaret Alva and Ivan D’souza are the ones who are active in politics from a young age. Due to his hardwork, Ivan has now become the Chief Whip of the legislative assembly. People from our community have to join politics and mix along with everyone,” he said.

“My political career is very young. Ivan has worked very hard for reaching where he is today. His vast experience can definitely motivate more youngsters to enter politics. Hardwork and dedication does lead to success and our youngsters should work hard with a definite purpose,” he added.

Ivan D’Souza who was honoured on the occasion stated the fact that his appointment as the Chief Whip has been a happy moment for the entire community. He also said that the government has reserved funds for the education of members of Christian community, but very less number of students come forward to claim them.

“Lack of information is reason for the low student response. I have travelled to many districts to spread the information about government schemes. I will keep working hard to spread this information,” he said.

“We need more young leaders in politics. I started my career at ICYM and since then worked hard to reach upto this level. I am the first person from our community to reach this post in the State. I have taken up various responsibilities and fulfilled them. I have distributed Rs 3.12 crore from the Chief Minister’s Relief fund to poor people suffering from diseases,” he added.

Earlier Gilbert D’Souza, President of Rachana welcomed the gathering.  Juliet Mascarenhas delivered the vote of thanks. John Monteiro, former president of Rachana, Secretary Eulalia and others were present.
