“World Club Foot Day” observed at Wenlock Hospital

Mangaluru: Club Foot is not a curse. It is one of the most common congenital physical deformity involving foot which twists the ankle and toes of an infant which may lead to permanent disability if not treated in the early stages, opined Dr. Devadas Rai, Professor of Medicine, A J Institute of Health Sciences.

He was speaking after inaugurating “World Club Foot Day” organised by the district Wenlock Hospital at regional paediatric care centre hall on July 6. The disease cannot be prevented but certainly cured, he added. The day is being observed worldwide to raise awareness about the Club Foot disability which now can be cured by adopting a nonsurgical measure comprising of gentle manipulation of feet followed by application of plaster casts and fixing special shoes and temporary bracing. He also assured that the Rotary Club will join hands in this direction.

Dr. K R Kamath, Orthopedic Surgeon, delivered a guest lecture by audio visual presentation. He said it was a combination of genetic and environmental factor which caused the discomfort and disability. Early detection and correction is a remedial measure which is painless, he added.

Earlier District Surgeon Dr. Rajeshwari Devi welcomed the gathering. Past President of Indian Medical Association DK Branch Dr. G K Bhat expressed his happiness over the exclusive clinic opened in the Wenlock Hospital. Lady Goshen Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Savitha and Cure India Company Manager Gopi Busanatham and Executive Priya Yogesh were present on this occasion.
