Mumbai: Popular Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan, who tragically passed away on Wednesday, April 29, at the age of 53, was buried at the Versova kabristan at 3 pm.
Khan, who had been battling a neuroendocrine tumour, a rare form of cancer, since 2018, passed away at the Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. He had been admitted in the hospital’s ICU after his health deteriorated.
It can be recalled that the actor’s mother passed away just a few days ago. He was, unfortunately, unable to attend her funeral due to the ongoing lockdown.
According to a statement released by Khan’s family, the actor was “buried at the Versova kabristan in Mumbai at 3 pm this afternoon soon after the news of his passing away was announced”.
Present at the burial were his family, close relatives and friends, including filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, who has worked with Irrfan on multiple projects like Haider and 7 Khoon Maaf, according to a report by India Today.
“Everyone paid their final respects and mourned the loss of his passing away. We pray for his peace and we hope he’s in a better place today. He was strong in his fight, and we all have to be strong too in this loss,” the statement read.
His last rites were performed by his sons Babil and Ayan.
Owing to the lockdown and the strict restrictions, Irrfan’s industry friends weren’t allowed to reach the kabristan.
The India Today report stated that strict security cover has been deployed at the kabristan’s entry to prevent visitors from entering and crowding the burial site.
Irrfan Khan is survived by his wife Sutapa Sikder and sons Babil and Ayan. His last release was “Angrezi Medium”.
