Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Priyanka Chopra has launched a scathing attack against a church in Kerala, after it denied burial rights to her maternal grandmother recently.
As per sources, Priyanka’s grandmother’s last wish was that she should be buried at the St John’s Attamangalam church in Kerala, but with the church turning down the request from the family, her last rites had to be performed at another graveyard some 45 km away from the church of her choice.

Priyanka’s grandmother Mary John Akhouri had married a Hindu and post her marriage, broke all ties with the church, where she was baptised.

With her grandmother’s last wish not being fulfilled, the former Miss World, evidently disheartened by the episode, called it ‘awful’.

“The act of the church was awful. But we should not concentrate on it. Rather we should look that we lost a family member. My grandmother had confessed and even taken communion in this church two years back. I don’t see any reason why she should be denied her last wish. I am not going to take this lying down. This is the 21st century, not some dark age,” said Priyanka.
