‘Filmalani 100’ stars of Maa…Yeh Cinemaa Hai

Mangaluru: Award winning Mangalorean Filmmaker Sandeep Malani has created not just one record but several records with his latest venture ‘Maa – yeh cinemaa hai’. This Hinglish film that is of 3 hours 45 minutes duration has been entirely shot on an iPhone camera.

The film that is scheduled to be telecast as a weekly series on Daijiworld 24×7 features more than 100 actors in it. Malani had initially planned to title it as ‘Filmalani 100’.

Sandeep Malani, says, ‘‘I have grown up watching films since my childhood as my family atmosphere was always filmy with my maternal side on theatre, music and dance, my father was a film distributor and a theatre manager for several years. Also I grew up with a owning music shop that of record players, audio and video cassettes to CD and DVD library. Besides my profession of being a Film Journalist to theatre, music, dance, acting and direction – my life has been totally devoted to cinema. With the celebration of 100 years of Indian Cinema 4 years ago, I had given a special tribute with an event in Mangalore and in Sydney with my production house Malani Talkies. That’s when I decided to make a film with newcomers giving a tribute to Cinema and titled it ‘Filmalani 100’. Although the plan started, due to some circumstances, it didnot take off. And today, with an iPhone camera, I have completed a film, a dream of making it with 100 plus stars that turned out to be ‘Maa – Yeh Cinemaa Hai’.

The film series has actors from the film, television industry of Bollywood and South Indian films, besides newcomers, models, dancers, theatre artists and common man who are working professionals and housewives, not connected to the Entertainment industry. A whole lot of talents from Mangalore are also in the series from Tulu, Kannada and Konkani film industry.

Maa – yeh cinemaa Hai is a film on mother sentiment and it also has a special segment of woman empowerment for which several celebrities and models have actively been given a video message that will be featured in the series and those include actresses Sudha Chandran, Adaa Khan, Pooja Gandhi, Sonal Monteiro, Ester Noronha, Harshika Poonachha, Geetha Sharma to name a few. The good wishes also come from Kalpana Pandit, Sowmya Murthy, Jaz Shabbir and Salome Pinto.

The ones behind the camera include popular Kannada actress Jayalakshmi and playback singer Deepa Narayan who have rendered their voice for characters in the film. The others include Rishi, Dhruv Soni, Sanidh Poojary, Abhishek Rajput, Sudarshan Reddy, Anil More, Ghata Panchal, Soma Basu, Shrikanth Nair, Vinoo Varghese, Nishant Varghese, Vivek Giree, Manoj Dsouza, Karthik, Gurudutt Srikanth, Govind Kurnool, Priya Yadav, Shwetha.
