New Delhi: Dubai has initiated the construction of a new terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport with the aim of establishing it as the largest airport globally. The emirate’s ruler has disclosed plans to eventually transition all operations from Dubai International Airport to Al Maktoum International Airport in the forthcoming years.
On Sunday, UAE PM HH Sheikh Mohammad unveiled the development, stating, “Today, we have given the green light to the designs for the new passenger terminals at Al Maktoum International Airport, commencing construction of the facility at a cost of AED 128 billion as part of Dubai Aviation Corporation’s strategic framework.”

Capacity:
Al Maktoum International Airport is slated to accommodate the highest number of passengers globally, with a capacity of up to 260 million annually.
Size:
The airport’s size will surpass that of the current Dubai International Airport by fivefold.

With 400 aircraft gates, the airport will ensure efficient and seamless operations.
Runways:
It will be equipped with five parallel runways to effectively manage air traffic.

The estimated cost of the project stands at approximately ₹2900 Crores.

The initial phase, capable of handling 150 million passengers annually, is slated for completion within a decade.
Furthermore, the ruler emphasized the development of an entire city around the airport in Dubai South, which will serve as a home to leading companies in the logistics and air transport sectors. This initiative is anticipated to accommodate housing for a million individuals. He remarked, “We are embarking on a new venture for the future generations, ensuring sustained and progressive development for our progeny. Dubai is poised to become the epitome of global aviation, maritime trade, urbanization, and the new global nexus.”
