As spring blossoms, the Food Fight Against Hunger initiative returns to raise vital funds for providing nutritious meals to the community.
WMTV 15 News recently interviewed Sam Sveen from Food Fight Restaurant Group and Janet Simon from Second Harvest to discuss this year’s campaign.
Throughout April, Food Fight Restaurant Group and Second Harvest have joined forces to craft special menus aimed at addressing hunger in the community. This collaborative effort has been ongoing for over 15 years, with each restaurant offering unique menu items that include a built-in donation to Second Harvest.
“People can also donate at the bottom of the bill or with any carry-out order at any participating restaurants,” Sveen explained.
Simon emphasized the significance of this partnership, highlighting Food Fight’s integral role in the community. “We love it because Food Fight is such an important part of the community and this is all about the whole community supporting the rest of the community,” she expressed.
The collaboration is praised for its ability to unite the community in tackling hunger. “It takes a village,” Simon remarked, emphasizing the importance of collective action in raising awareness and supporting those in need.
Simon underscored the vital role of partnerships like this in Second Harvest’s operations. “Second Harvest without partnerships like this one can’t function. We need the support. This is how we get food into the community,” she stated.
The partnership enables Second Harvest to distribute food to 300 different locations across 16 counties in southwestern Wisconsin, demonstrating the impact of community-driven initiatives.
With 16 restaurants in Madison and Middleton participating in the fight this April, the Food Fight Against Hunger initiative continues to make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals facing food insecurity.
