Washington: According to reports from American media on Sunday, former president Donald Trump has intensified his accusation that his Democratic successor is misusing the US justice system against him. He likened Joe Biden’s tactics to those of Hitler’s Gestapo.
During a private meeting on Saturday at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida with top party leaders and wealthy donors, Trump made this comparison, as per a recording provided to US media by a donor. In a 90-minute speech, he accused the Democrats of operating a “Gestapo administration,” drawing a parallel to the secret police force in Nazi Germany. Trump asserted, “It’s the only way they’re going to win.”
This remark came amid the intensifying campaign and adds to a series of statements from Trump that critics find highly provocative. These include calling political adversaries “vermin” and likening immigrants to “animals.” The audience at Mar-a-Lago, which included potential vice-presidential candidates, reportedly applauded his remarks.
Trump also criticized the prosecutors handling the four separate court cases against him, including the ongoing hush-money trial in New York. He labeled it a “witch hunt” orchestrated by the Democratic administration to eliminate his main presidential rival.
The White House, denying any involvement in the legal proceedings, condemned Trump’s comments on Sunday. Spokesman Andrew Bates stated, “Instead of echoing the appalling rhetoric of fascists, lunching with Neo Nazis, and fanning debunked conspiracy theories that have cost brave police officers their lives, President Biden is bringing the American people together around our shared democratic values and the rule of law.”
Biden’s campaign responded to Trump’s remarks, asserting that they confirm the focus of Trump’s campaign is solely on himself, his anger, revenge, lies, and retribution.
