Washington:A gunman has fired three shots at the Washington Navy Yard, injuring at least one person, U.S. Navy officials announced Monday.
The shooting remains active, a public information officer for the Metropolitan Police Department said to the sources. Police officers are currently on the scene outside the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters building, where the shooting was reported. Roughly 3,000 people who work inside the building have been directed to stay in place, Navy officials said.
Naval Sea Systems Command is the largest of the Navys five system commands and accounts for a quarter of the Navys entire budget. It builds, buys and maintains the Navys ships and submarines and their combat systems.
