Glasgow: In a killing suspected to be ‘religious prejudice attack’, a 40-year-old Muslim shopkeeper was stabbed on head after he wished Christian friends Happy Easter, online.
The shopkeeper, Asad Shah, originally from Pakistan, wrote: “Good Friday and a very Happy Easter, especially to my beloved Christian nation.”
He planned to host a Google hangout today with church-going friends about the significance of Good Friday, as per media reports.
In previous Facebook posts, Mr Shah urged people to reject violence and hatred in favour of “unconditional real love for all mankind”.
As per sources, the killer, a 32-year-old man, now in custody of Police Scotland, wore a religious robe and conversed with the victim in Urdu before stabbing him.
Shah’s brother came running towards him to rescue but he was injured too.
He was attacked in Shawlands, Glasgow, on Thursday around 9 pm. Medics gave CPR or Cardiopulmonary resuscitation before rushing him to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he later died.
