An unexpected incident occurred aboard Air Canada Flight 137, resulting in a significant detour and a three-hour delay for passengers. The disruption unfolded when a 16-year-old passenger attacked a family member during the flight from Toronto to Calgary, as reported by USA Today.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police issued a press statement, revealing that the Winnipeg Richardson International Airport was notified of the aircraft diversion at 12:20 p.m. local time. The diversion was prompted by an unruly 16-year-old male passenger from Grande Prairie, who assaulted an adult male family member on board.
According to authorities, fellow travelers and airline staff managed to restrain the teenager. The assaulted family member received treatment for minor physical injuries during the flight. Subsequently, the teenager was detained and transferred to the hospital for a medical examination. No other injuries were reported, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
The incident led to a three-hour delay before the flight could resume its journey to Calgary. Meanwhile, Air Canada has been in the headlines for a separate incident involving British MP Mohammad Yasin in October. Yasin claimed he was prevented from boarding an Air Canada flight due to his name, experiencing questioning at Heathrow and Toronto airports. Despite proving his identity as an MP and presenting a valid visa, Yasin described the incident as “stressful and humiliating.” He expressed concern about the treatment and emphasized the potential difficulties faced by non-MPs in similar situations.
