A tragic incident occurred last week in London involving a 33-year-old Indian student. The individual, identified as Cheistha Kochhar, lost her life in a traffic accident while cycling back to her residence. Kochhar, who had previously been associated with the public policy think-tank NITI Aayog, was pursuing doctoral studies at the London School of Economics.
The news of Kochhar’s passing was shared by Amitabh Kant, the former CEO of NITI Aayog, through an online post. Kant expressed his sorrow over the loss, highlighting Kochhar’s vibrant personality and academic pursuits.

According to reports, Kochhar was struck by a garbage truck on March 19 while cycling, with her husband Prashant present at the scene. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries on-site.
Lt Gen SP Kochhar (retired), Kochhar’s father, currently in London to handle the formalities following her demise, took to LinkedIn to express his grief and to invite shared memories of his daughter.
Originally from Gurugram, Kochhar had relocated to London in September to undertake her PhD studies in organizational behavior management at the London School of Economics. Her academic journey included stints at Delhi University, Ashoka University, and universities in Pennsylvania and Chicago.
Her professional background included serving as a senior advisor at the National Behavioural Insights Unit of India within NITI Aayog from 2021 to 2023, as detailed on her LinkedIn profile.
